About
Lauren Anderson joined Houston Ballet in 1983 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1990, becoming the company's first African-American principal. She performed leading roles internationally and retired from performance in 2006 before moving into education and community engagement. In 2016 her pointe shoes from her final performance were placed in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
