Founded by the Ringling brothers in Baraboo, Wisconsin in the 1880s, the troupe merged with Barnum & Bailey in 1919 to form the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Billed for decades as "The Greatest Show on Earth," it toured worldwide for more than a century, went on hiatus in 2017 amid changing public attitudes toward animal acts, and has since been reimagined and returned to the stage in recent years.
